Start out with a random orbit sadner. Sand in the direction of the grain with 60 grit to remove the old finish, then move up to 100 grit, and finish with 150 grit. Use a tack cloth to remove any dust. Next stain to the color of your choosing, allow to sit for a few minutes, then wipe off the excess. I recommend oil based stain and polyurethane, but you can use water based if you like. Do not mix the 2. If you use water stain, use water polyurethane, or oil and oil. Allow to dry overnight, then apply a coat of polyurethane. For furniture, I usually use satin finish. Allow to dry overnight, and then lightly sand by hand with 220 grit paper. Wipe with a tack cloth and apply a second coat of polyurethane and allow to dry. If desired, repeat for a third coat. I would stay away from the combination stain/polyurethane products. It seems easier, but you get better results using them separately. Hope this helps.

I am really inspired together with your writing abilities as neatly as with the layout in your blog. Is that this a paid subject or did you customize it your self? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to peer a nice blog like this one these days..
